      ABOUT US

      Mahatma Gandhi Government Arts College (MGGAC Mahe / Mahe College) is the premier higher educational institution of the Mahe region and the present campus is located in a serene, picturesque and sprawling area at Mount Vera, Chalakkara, Mahe. It blossomed as the outcome of the efforts of the Puducherry administration with the avowed objective of imparting quality education in Arts, Humanities and Science to all the constituent units of the Union Territory. The College was inaugurated on 11th December 1970 by Shri. B.D. Jatti, His Excellency the Lt. Governor of Puducherry. Prof. M.M. Ghani, Vice Chancellor, University of Calicut, unveiled the plaque. The function was presided over by Shri. M.O.H. Farook, the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Puducherry. The institution started off as a junior college affiliated to the University of Calicut. It attained the status of a full-fledged degree college in the year 1973 and a Post Graduate Institution in the year 1992. The college is presently affiliated to the Pondicherry University and is accredited 'B' Grade by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council). The college has good infrastructural facilities, well equipped laboratories, qualified and experienced Faculties.

Catering to the diverse needs of the community of students in and around Mahe, the premier higher education institution, Mahathma Gandhi Govt. Arts college strives to achieve excellence in the ever expanding horizon of higher education. Following the words of Mahathma that education must correspond to the surrounding circumstances, we believe that education is a wholesome exercise in inculcating human values and making the students encounter reality face to face. It is a matter of immense pleasure to state that we have been placed in 101 - 150 rank band of NIRF which is an indication of our steady progress in various fields. The MGGA college tradition encapsulates sound academic Achievements with an extensive and vibrant co- curricular activities that includes sports and training programmes. Realising the fact that we have miles to go, we welcome you all.
