














Mahatma Gandhi Government Arts College (MGGAC Mahe / Mahe College) is the premier higher educational institution of the Mahe region and the present campus is located in a serene, picturesque and sprawling area at Mount Vera, Chalakkara, Mahe. It blossomed as the outcome of the efforts of the Puducherry administration with the avowed objective of imparting quality education in Arts, Humanities and Science to all the constituent units of the Union Territory. The College was inaugurated on 11th December 1970 by Shri. B.D. Jatti, His Excellency the Lt. Governor of Puducherry. Prof. M.M. Ghani, Vice Chancellor, University of Calicut, unveiled the plaque. The function was presided over by Shri. M.O.H. Farook, the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Puducherry. The institution started off as a junior college affiliated to the University of Calicut. It attained the status of a full-fledged degree college in the year 1973 and a Post Graduate Institution in the year 1992. The college is presently affiliated to the Pondicherry University and is accredited 'B' Grade by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council). The college has good infrastructural facilities, well equipped laboratories, qualified and experienced Faculties.
















































The Inaugural Session commenced at 10 am by an invocation. Mr. K. Kalamegam, Environmental Engineer welcomed the gathering and gave the introductory address. He explained the details of the programme. Regional Administrator Mr. D. Mohan Kumar presided over the function. During the presidential address he appreciated the Department of Science, Technology and Environment for introducing Climate Scholar Award. Mr. Ramesh Parambath, Member of Legislative Assembly, Mahe inaugurated the event. During his inaugural address he appealed the participants to make use of the opportunity and pursue research in the field of Climate Change and its impact. The Principal Dr. K.K. Sivadasan delivered the Keynote address. He gave a brief introduction on Climate Change and its Impact. Dr. K.M. Gopinathan, HoD Zoology and IQAC Coordinator felicitated the programme. Dr. G. Pradeep Kumar, HoD Botany and Programme Coordinator proposed the vote of thanks. There were Four Technical Sessions after the Inaugural Session. Mrs. Thenmozhi, Senior Project Associate, Puducherry Climate Change Cell, DSTE delivered a talk on Introduction to Climate Science, Climate Scenarios & Recent Development in Climate Change. During the second technical session Mrs. Santhalakshmy, Senior Project Associate, Puducherry Climate Change Cell, DSTE delivered a talk on Carbon Foot -printing: Methodologies for Climate Accounting – individual, organizational, or sectoral carbon footprints, Global Emission scenarios, emissions, reductions and targets. During the third session Mr. Balaji, Senior Project Associate, Puducherry Climate Change Cell, DSTE delivered a talk on Introduction to Meteorology and Meteorological data collection in the Indian context. Mr. Pannerselvam, Senior Project Associate, Puducherry Climate Change Cell, DSTE engaged the technical session Four. It was pertaining to Climate Data Analysis and hands on training (Methodology, Questionnaire and Report). Each technical session was followed by interaction and doubt clearing. The concluding session was the announcement of Climate Scholar Award. Mr. Pannerselvam explained the details and asked the participants to register on or before the 4th of February 2026. Selected teams have to submit the report of the research work latest by 28th of February and the first three teams will be selected for the award. Each team (2 persons) will be awarded certificates and rupees ten thousand. The Programme coordinator proposed the vote of thanks. The event concluded at 4.30 pm with the National Anthem.

The Department of Physics, Mahatma Gandhi Government Arts College, Mahe, organized an invited talk on “Singular Value Decomposition of Matrices & Image Compression” on 28th January 2026 (Wednesday) at 10:00 AM in the Seminar Hall.
