Mahatma Gandhi Government Arts College (MGGAC Mahe / Mahe College) is the premier higher educational institution of the Mahe region and the present campus is located in a serene, picturesque and sprawling area at Mount Vera, Chalakkara, Mahe. It blossomed as the outcome of the efforts of the Puducherry administration with the avowed objective of imparting quality education in Arts, Humanities and Science to all the constituent units of the Union Territory. The College was inaugurated on 11th December 1970 by Shri. B.D. Jatti, His Excellency the Lt. Governor of Puducherry. Prof. M.M. Ghani, Vice Chancellor, University of Calicut, unveiled the plaque. The function was presided over by Shri. M.O.H. Farook, the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Puducherry. The institution started off as a junior college affiliated to the University of Calicut. It attained the status of a full-fledged degree college in the year 1973 and a Post Graduate Institution in the year 1992. The college is presently affiliated to the Pondicherry University and is accredited 'B' Grade by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council). The college has good infrastructural facilities, well equipped laboratories, qualified and experienced Faculties.
As a part of Community Engagement course, students of second year BSc Physics, Mahatma Gandhi Government Arts College Mahe, visited Palloor 110 kV substation on 12.05.2025. JE, Mr. K Rejithkumar and ALI, Mr. Sujesh explained the working of an electrical substation in general and also gave instructions regarding electrical safety measures and energy conservation. Sandeep K V, Assistant Professor & Head, Department of Physics accompanied the students as per the instructions of the Principal, Dr. K. K Sivadasan.
